Several Feared Dead After Stampede Breaks Out At Mahakumbh Amid Mauni Amavasya Rush
A ‘stampede-like’ situation broke out at the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj early Wednesday after a large number of pilgrims turned up to take a dip in Sangam on the occasion of ‘Mauni Amavasya’. The incident occurred around 2 am where several people, including women and children, suffered injuries with some feared dead.
Ambulances and police vehicles rushed to the Sangam and injured people were taken to the central hospital in the Mela area. Although the exact count of casualties is not clear yet, several media reports said that at least 10 people are feared dead and around 40 injured.
Before this match, India will take on Japan in their second match of the tournament and Pakistan will clash with South Korea at the same venue.

Yamuna 'Poisoned' Remark: Haryana Govt To File Case Against Arvind Kejriwal; EC Seeks Evidence From AAP Chief
The Haryana government is all set to file a defamation case against former Delhi Chief Minister and current Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal over his remarks alleging the BJP government in Haryana has "poisoned" the Yamuna water, state minister Vipul Goyal said on Wednesday. The development came right ahead of the Delhi Assembly Elections which is scheduled to take place on February 5.
"Kejriwal has spread panic among the people of Haryana and Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal has given an irresponsible statement...There is no truth in these allegations. The Haryana government will not spare him," Mr Goyal said.

Parliament Panel Adopts Waqf Recommendations, Revised Bill
The Joint Committee of Parliament scrutinising the Waqf (Amendment) Bill adopted its draft report and the amended version of the proposed law with a majority vote, JPC chairperson Jagdambika Pal said, reported PTI.
Members of Parliament have been given time till 4 pm to submit their dissent.
Opposition MPs, some of whom have given their dissent, slammed the exercise as undemocratic, claiming that they were given little time to study the final report and frame their dissent notes.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant said all opposition members will give their dissent.

RG Kar Case: Protesting Doctors To Not Be Marked Absent From Duty, Rules SC
The Supreme Court of India has stated that all doctors who were on protest due to the RG Kar rape and murder case, will not be marked absent from duty. In a ruling favouring the protesting doctors, the SC ruled that attendance shall be regularised if they resumed work after the bench order in August 2024.
The matter was heard by a bench led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna. During the hearing, SC asked hospitals, including Delhi AIIMS to regularise doctors' absence during protests over the rape and murder of a resident doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata.
