Cameras at the Melbourne Cricket Ground panned consistently in the stands with tense faces in the crowd as Nitish Kumar Reddy approached his maiden Test century during the last phase of the play on the third day of the fourth Test. Situation was tense. India were just a wicket away from getting bowled out in the first innings and Reddy too needed just a run to reach century. Siraj had to play out three balls from Pat Cummins who was steaming in to get the final batter.

Siraj managed to play out the three balls and Reddy brought up his ton in the very next over.

After losing to India 8-1 in their last encounter, Malaysia were desperate for a win, and showed immense character to fight it out against Japan after they were a goal down after the first half.

Tears rolled out of the eyes of the man who seen praying earlier. He was Mutyala Reddy, the father of Nitish. He was celebrating but was also emotional. All the sacrifice of him and his son had bore fruit. Nitish became the third youngest Indian to score a century in Australia.

"For our family, it's a special day and we cannot forget this day in our life. He has been performing well since the age group of 14-15 and now in international cricket, it's a very special feeling," Mutayla told Adam Gilchrist on air after completing the ton.

"I was very tensed. Only the last wicket was remaining. Thankfully Siraj managed to survive," Nitish's father added.

Nitish had earlier talked about the sacrifices that his father made in order to make him a cricketer.

"My father left his job for me and there has been a lot of sacrifice behind my story. One day, I saw him crying because of the financial problems we were facingpesowin, and I was like, this is not how you can be. Then I got serious. I gave my first jersey to him and saw the happiness in his face," Reddy had told BCCI.TV.
