The first Grand Slam of the 2025 tennis season is around the corner. Melbourne Park is set to host the 113th edition of the Australian Open from January 12 to 26. (More Tennis News)

As always, the creme de la creme of elite tennis will be vying for honours at the season-opening hardcourt Major. The likes of Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are the biggest names in the men's field, while top seed Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff headline the women's field.

Sabalenka enters the tournament with a title already to her name in 2025. The Belarusian downed 21-year-old qualifier Polina Kudermetova to lift the Brisbane International trophy.

Meanwhile, Indian singles tennis spearhead Sumit Nagal figures in the main draw and will make his fifth appearance in a Grand Slam. He garnered a direct entry for the main draw, ranked 98th in the world at the time.

Speaking of the draw, the Australian Open 2025 singles draw will be made on Thursday, 9 January, while the doubles draw will be made Saturday, 11 January. The tournament director is Craig Tiley.

Qualifying: Monday, 6 January to Wednesday, 8 January starting at 4:30 am IST. Thursday, 9 January starting at 5:30am IST

Main Draw: Sunday, 12 January to Thursday, 23 January from 5:30am and 1:30pm. Friday, 24 January at 6:30am and 2pm

Doubles Final: Saturday, 25 January from 2pm

Singles Final: Sunday, 26 January at 2pm

Australian Open 2025: Prize Money

In the singles competition, the men's and women's champions will earn 3.5 million Australian dollars (AUD) each, while the finalists will pocket 1.9 million AUD. The doubles champions will get 810,000 AUD, and the finalists will garner 440,000 AUD.

The overall prize money corpus has increased 119 per cent from 44 million AUD in 2016 to 96.5 million now. It has gone up more than 36 per cent in the past five editions, and around 12 per cent on 2024.

Australian Open 2025: Past Winners

Italy's Jannik Sinner won the 2024 Australian Open men's title with a 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 win over Daniil Medvedev in the championship match. The Indo-Australian combine of Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden lifted the doubles trophy, defeating Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori 7–6(0), 7–5 in the final.

Djokovic possesses 10 Australian Open singles titles in all, the highest for any player, and the Bryan brothers (Bob and Mike) hold the doubles record with six titles.
